Leyden adds four to Wall

The four 2004 inductees to the Leyden High Schools Alumni Wall of Fame includes Chicago's youngest alderman, a cartoonist whose work appears in several major metropolitan newspapers, a senior manager for McDonald's Corp. and a member of one of the most successful rock groups ever.

Chosen by an 11-member committee of teachers, staff and administrators, the four new members of the Wall of Fame will be recognized at a May 17 induction ceremony at West Leyden in Northlake.

The 2004 Wall of Fame inductees include

*Jonathan Cain, East Leyden Class of 1968, who is a longtime member of the rock group Journey. Cain also has played with the internationally known bands The Babys and Bad English.

*Manuel Flores, West Leyden Class of 1990. Flores, the 1st Ward Alderman in Chicago, was elected in 2003 to the Chicago City Council.

*Matt Janz, East Leyden Class of 1988, has been drawing cartoons since he was 10 years old. His current cartoon creation, "Out of the Gene Pool," is printed in the likes of the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, New York Daily News, Seattle Times and Taiwan News.

*Robyn Chavarrie McCluskey, East Leyden Class of 1984, is senior manager, Restaurant Business Services, eMac Digital, McDonald's Corp. in Oak Brook.

As the keyboard player for Journey, Cain was involved with a band that has sold more than 60 million albums. The former Schiller Park resident co-wrote the well-known hits "Open Arms" and "Who's Crying Now." He has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and is the recipient of the Diamond Award for record sales of over 10 million.

Cain currently lives in the San Francisco area.
Flores is a former Cook County assistant state's attorney, a former aide of U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez and a former intern for State Rep. Angelo "Skip" Saviano. Flores also is a member of the Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association and a founding member of Fuerza, a not-for-profit educational advocacy organization.

Janz is a recipient of the Fine Toon Fellowship and volunteers time in schools to give presentations about cartooning.

McCluskey s a 2000 recipient of the McDonald's President's Award, volunteers with Junior Achievements, is a member of the Ledger and Quill Board for DePaul University's School of Accountancy and participates in numerous charity fundraisers.

All four 2004 Wall of Fame inductees have indicated that they plan to attend the induction ceremony. They also will spend time May 17 and 18 at both East and West Leyden in Franklin Park and Northlake, respectively, taking part in activities with students.
