Keyboard Module: An external unit that stores hundreds of keyboard sounds, that can be accessed by any keyboard via Midi. These keyboard modules come in many shapes and sizes depending on what kind of sounds your looking for. For example, in Jon’s rack, he has 1 module that is just piano sounds, another module that just puts out synth sounds and another for orchestral sounds. Those sounds are then combined through a mixer that allows Jon to mix his sounds to give him the sound he needs for each song
Midi: Stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It is a signal of communication that allows keyboards and keyboard modules to talk to one another, Very similar in the computer world when 2 or more computers are networked together. For example: Jon plays a 7ft grand piano, but inside is a midi interface that allows the piano to talk (trigger) other keyboard modules. What you hear live is actually a real piano layered with another electronic piano module, giving that signature Journey piano sound.
Rack: A road case that houses and protects equiptment on the road. Jon’s rack holds all his keyboard modules, mixer and AC power. See Photo:
